ICC World Cup 2011 - India, Pakistan, face to face in the World

In 119 ODIs played between Pakistan and India have dominated cross-border rivals India with a victory 69 to 46 defeats.

But in World Cup history has been radically different.

The parties met for the first time in a World Cup in 1992 in Australia. Pakistan, who won the World Cup, but the rivalry between India and Pakistan has often been regarded as big as the World Cup.

The match started well for Sydney with Azharuddin India winning the toss and choosing to bat. The Indian team has 216 in a match reduced to 49 overs due to a slowdown in the rate by Pakistan.

Chasing a modest total, Pakistan went for the 173, going from a dominant position in 105 / 2. Manoj Prabhakar, Kapil Dev and Srinath has two windows each.

Four years ago, Bangalore was a bigger stage, with tens of thousands of rooting for the hosts. The teams were playing for a place in the semi-final against Sri Lanka.

Again, India won the crucial launch and accumulated 287 in the back of Sidhu 93. Pakistan fell short by 39 runs after looking threatening 113 / 1, at one stage.

India win in Manchester in 1999 again highlighted by the rivalry between India and Pakistan is seen as a separate event in its own right and as large as the World Cup itself.

This was a tournament that was to leave India after the Super Six stage, while Pakistan to the final where they lost to the eventual winners, Australia.

India batted first, once again, and the 227 was enough on a wicket seam where Venkatesh Prasad five for sure that Pakistan were out for 180.

Then came the 2003 Pool A match, which Pakistan has to bat first and helped 273 per tonne Said Anwar. However, the total was about 30 runs short of hitting a window, and the opening partnership of 53 in 29 balls in the back of a rampant Sehwag was a precursor of things to come.

Tendulkar went on to play what is considered their best entries in any World Cup, and although he fell for 98, Dravid led the home team in the company of Yuvraj.

That was the last game between the sides in a World Cup. Therefore, here we are, India against Pakistan in World Cup: India 4, Pakistan 0.

2011 will be different, or more of the same? I can not wait to find out.
